The Charlotte Blackburn Fund was established in 2010 in memory of David Blackburn's mom as a way to provide scholarships for softball athletes to participate in the World Maccabiah Games. David Blackburn passed away in 2014 and the fund was re-named The Blackburn Fund in his memory.
David was an instrumental figure in the Maccabi USA Softball community, participating in every Maccabiah Games from 1985, the first year that softball was offered as a part of the Maccabiah Games, through 2009. David suffered a near-fatal accident in 2010. He struggled through a difficult recovery after the loss of a leg yet rebounded to participate in the 2013 Maccabiah Games as a member of the Parathlete Table Tennis Team. His jersey number, 7, was retired at a special ceremony at the Maccabiah Games.
All money contributed to this fund will be used to ensure that all qualified athletes are able to participate in the World Maccabiah Games.
